Robert Richford Roberts
Through the efforts of circuit preachers like Bishop Robert Richford Roberts (The Frontier Bishop) and others like him, the number of Methodists in America grew from 600 in 1772 to 599,736 in 1833. Roberts began preaching in 1801 and was elected to the office of Bishop in 1816. He was the first married man to serve as a Methodist Bishop.
